Most schools expect teens to adapt to the system; we build the system around the teen. Lodestar Academy is a microschool designed specifically for teens who need something more than a one-size-fits-all education. We serve students ages 12+ in a small, supportive environment where learning is personalized, structured, and actually meaningful. Our approach blends core academics with real-world life skills and social-emotional learning, because success isn’t just about passing tests. It’s about building confidence, independence, and resilience.

This isn’t a place where students disappear into the background or get labeled and left behind. We see them, we get to know them, and we help them rebuild the confidence that traditional environments often wear down. With small class sizes and intentional support, students don’t just keep up, they thrive and shine in ways they never believed they could. They begin to take ownership of their learning, build real-world skills, and develop the independence and resilience they’ll carry with them long after they leave our classrooms.

Justine has spent over two decades working with kids, and she’s seen what happens when the system doesn’t work for them. As a late-diagnosed neurodivergent adult and the parent of two neurodivergent teens, she knows firsthand that the problem isn’t the student, it’s the environment. After years of moving across the country during her husband’s military career, one thing became clear: the same capable, intelligent kids were being overlooked again and again simply because they didn’t fit the mold. So she built something different. Lodestar Academy was designed to challenge the idea that students have to “just push through” or “try harder” to succeed. Instead, it offers a structured, supportive environment where students can learn in ways that actually work for them without lowering expectations. When she’s not running the day-to-day chaos (lovingly), she enjoys reading, crafting, and caring for her many animals—though “free time” is mostly theoretical.
