Hi there! I am April Simmons and I have been a public school educator for the past 10 years in Tucson, Arizona. I was raised here in Tucson and knew from a very young age that teaching was what I wanted to do. After a decade of learning and growing, I was faced with the decision to either walk away from teaching entirely or create a teaching environment that allows me to teach and learn in a way that bring the joy back for both students and teachers. I live with my husband Andrew and our two cats, Malley and Figaro. I love camping, reading, singing, and Disney. My favorite person in the world, and one of the biggest inspirations for this new adventure is my 3 year old niece, Harper. I have a passion for teaching and learning through mistakes and exploration and I look forward to helping our students embrace the joy of learning.

I have known the founder of AMOMAR for more than 5 years. She previously taught my child at a traditional public school. April has always been kind and supportive and inclusive. She sees where traditional education has gone wrong and is working to right the course through secular, low stress, interest based learning. AMOMAR is not just a place where children will learn but where families have the opportunity to grow and be heard.
