LaSonya Woods is an accomplished educator, leader, and community advocate with over two decades of experience in education, workforce development, and human services. She is the Founder of ME Institute, a faith-based microschool dedicated to serving non-traditional learners through personalized, interest-driven education that prepares students for real-world success.
With over 25 years in public education, LaSonya brings deep expertise in instructional leadership, individualized education planning, and student advocacy. She is committed to ensuring equitable access to education by supporting teachers, developing professional training, and implementing strategies that improve student achievement and behavioral outcomes.
In addition to her work in public education, LaSonya is the Executive Director of Independent Productive Citizens, Inc., an organization she has led since 2016. Through this organization, she has developed and managed programs that provide employability skills training, apprenticeship opportunities, and career readiness services for youth and adults. Her work bridges education and workforce development by partnering with schools, employers, and community agencies to create pathways to sustainable careers.
LaSonya’s career began in mental health services, where she supported individuals with diverse behavioral and emotional needs. She later spent over a decade with Shelby County Schools as a Special Education Teacher, where she mentored educators, led professional development, and designed transition programs to help students successfully move into post-secondary life.
