KaiPod Learning Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding Microschools

A microschool is a small, in-person learning environment that typically serves 8-15 students with a low student-to-teacher ratio.Microschools combine elements of homeschooling (personalized pacing and curriculum choice) with the structure and community of a school setting. Students may be grouped by ability or interest rather than strictly by age, and learning is often highly individualized.

Microschools differ from homeschooling in that learning is led by a professional educator in a shared, in-person environment.Students learn alongside peers outside the home, with daily instructional support and structured routines. While families may have input into curriculum choices, the microschool provides professional guidance, accountability, and community that solo homeschool typically does not.

Compared to traditional schools, microschools operate at a much smaller scale. KaiPod-supported microschools typically maintain a 12:1 student-to-coach ratio with a maximum of 24 students per location. Instruction is personalized rather than standardized, allowing students to move at their own pace and families to choose learning pathways that fit their needs.

For Families

KaiPod microschools serve students in upper elementary through high school, most commonly grades 3-12.They are a good fit for homeschool families seeking community, students using online programs who need in-person support, learners who thrive with more personalization, and children who are not succeeding in traditional school environments.

Tuition options vary by location. They typically range from $8,000 to $15,000 per year depending on location and schedule. Part-time enrollment options (2-5 days per week) are available at reduced rates. Sibling discounts are also available.

Yes, KaiPod Learning locations in AZ and FL accept Education Scholarship Accounts (ESAs), state vouchers, and tax-credit scholarships where available. Across KaiPod’s partner network of microschools, funding options vary by school and state regulation. You can get specific information for individual schools by contacting the school through the “Find a Microschool” page on KaiPod’s website.

KaiPod Learning locations offer an initial adjustment period so families can ensure the fit is right. While the first month is nonrefundable, families may withdraw within the first 30 days without committing to the full semester.

KaiPod Learning is curriculum-agnostic and does not require families to use a single curriculum. If you are transitioning from a traditional public or private school, KaiPod works with your family to develop a personalized education plan for your child.

For many students, this includes a self-paced learning program that allows them to move faster or slower based on mastery rather than age or grade level. Curriculum options may include accredited online schools, homeschool curricula, or blended approaches, depending on your child’s needs and your family’s goals.

KaiPod’s academic team offers private consultations to help families evaluate and select learning resources. Learning Coaches support students in following their chosen program but do not dictate curriculum.

Learning Coaches are experienced educators who guide the students in daily learning, facilitate enrichment activities, and serve as mentors at KaiPod Learning locations. Their backgrounds include classroom, tutoring, or alternative education experience, and they are selected for both their instructional and relationship-building skills.

Yes. KaiPod Learning locations offer 5-day, 4-day, 3-day, and 2-day plans. The flexible attendance policy allows students to attend as much or little as they need within their chosen plan.

KaiPod directly operates four KaiPod Learning locations in Arizona and Florida. Through our Partner Network, affiliated microschools are available in more than 30 states. Visit https://www.kaipodlearning.com/find-a-microschool/ to search for options in your area.

Start by scheduling a free 30-minute consultation with a KaiPod Advisor where you’ll learn more about the school and can get answers to your questions. At that time you can also schedule an appointment to tour the school or arrange a demo day for your child to experience the microschool. When ready, you’ll complete the enrollment form, select your plan, and arrange payment.

High school students working through accredited online programs receive diplomas from those institutions. Some Partner Network microschools pursue accreditation through organizations such as Cognia, WASC, and MSA, which can support transcript recognition depending on the school’s structure.

KaiPod microschools operate Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Extended care is available at some locations.

For Educators

Catalyst is acohort-based training program that supports educators in planning, preparing, and opening a microschool. Those enrolled in the prograrm move through six phases: Foundation, Business Model, Operations, Infrastructure, Pre-Launch, and Final Prep to opening. Each phase includes short course modules, milestone assignments, small-group sessions, and community support so you always know what to do next.

When enrolling in Catalyst, founders choose between two pricing models: a $249 program fee with a 10% tuition revenue share for two years if the school opens, or a $15,000 flat fee with $5,000 due at the start of the program.

If you complete Catalyst and decide not to open a microschool, you have no financial obligation beyond the initial program fee. The revenue share only applies if your school opens and enrolls students.

Teaching experience is not always required. Requirements vary by state and by how your microschool is structured. Catalyst helps founders understand state-specific requirements and choose a model that aligns with their background and goals.

No prior business experience is required. Catalyst is designed for educators who have not previously run a business. The program provides training on business fundamentals including budgeting, tuition pricing, financial modeling, compliance planning, and day-to-day operations. Founders build a realistic plan rather than learning through trial and error.

Yes. KaiPod is curriculum-agnostic and does not require founders to use a specific curriculum or pedagogy.Catalyst founders design their own educational model, whether that includes  Montessori, project-based learning, STEM-focused programs, faith-integrated models, or other approaches. KaiPod Catalyst provides guidance and structure rather than dictating academic content.

Catalyst is structured so that founders who stay on track with milestones can open a microschool in roughly one school year, typically opening for the following fall term. Most founders spend about ten hours a week on the program itself. Licensing, zoning, and enrollment timelines often take several months, and time commitments may increase when moving into hiring enrollment, and final preparation to opening.

Catalyst includes self-paced learning, live group coaching, milestone feedback, community support, a one-day virtual intensive, six structured phases, regular office hours, and access to Newton, KaiPod’s microschool management software.

KaiPod does not directly fund microschools. Catalyst helps founders understand startup costs, build financial models, and explore funding strategies based on your location. KaiPod also helps connect founders with potential grant and funding opportunities, but founders are responsible for securing their own capital.

No. You choose and secure your own location, but KaiPod Catalyst helps you:

  • Define your location criteria (size, zoning, cost, neighborhood)
  • Understand how different facility types affect your model and licensing
  • Prepare for fire marshal and safety requirements
  • Review lease terms with support from the KaiPod team

You make the final decisions on location. KaiPod helps you ask the right questions and not miss hidden costs or compliance issues.

After completing the Catalyst program and opening your microschool, you become part of KaiPod’s Partner Network, which includes continued access to Newton microschool management software, a Partner Success manager, ongoing coaching, enrollment support, and troubleshooting during your first two years, and access to the broader community of microschool founders for peer learning and encouragement. Our goal is to help you continue to grow and serve families sustainably for the long term.

About The Partner Network

The Partner Network supports independently owned microschools after they open. The network provides shared infrastructure and optional services such as marketing visibility, lead referrals, community connection, technology access, and accreditation pathway support—while founders retain full ownership and control of their schools.

Catalyst graduates join the Partner Network as part of their two years of post-launch support. Existing microschool owners who didn't go through Catalyst can also apply to join the network.

No. Partner Network schools are independently owned and operated. You choose your own name, curriculum, and educational model. KaiPod provides infrastructure and support, while each school retains full control over its identity and operations

Newton is developed and maintained by KaiPod Learning to support the operational needs of microschools.

Newton includes task planning and progress tracking, image uploading capabilities, messaging and communications tools, student information management, enrollment tools, attendance and scheduling, and billing and payments (credit card and ACH).

Yes. KaiPod has partnerships with Cognia (the nation's largest K-12 accrediting body), WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges), and MSA (Middle States Association). Partner schools may pursue accreditation through these organizations depending on their structure and readiness.

Based on a survey by EdChoice more than 90% of KaiPod students say they love school, compared to 41% nationally. Nine out of ten students report working at the right level for their learning, and 94% of parents report relying on their child's Learning Coach for guidance.
