Laura Yohualtlahuiz Rios-Ramirez is a 2-spirit Mexican-born Xicana scholar-practitioner, researcher & cultural strategist of Tepehuan and Guachichil Chichimeca Indigenous & mixed lineages. Currently residing in occupied Somi Se’k Territory in ancestrally known as Yanaguana, (San Antonio, TX) they’re recognized for their canon of Cultura Cura Pedagogy at the intersection of healing justice praxis, Mexican Indigenous traditional healing, performance art, ritual, and ancestral teachings as tools for educational and collective liberation with nearly 30 years of experience as an educator, professor and researcher in youth-led educational programming and initiatives. They are trained in narrative strategy, educational pedagogy, circle keeping, performance art, and cultural organizing. They are seasoned Rites of Passafe curriculum facilitator and trainer, having assisted in training teachers, school districts, counselors, and community circle keepers in Texas, New Mexico, and California. They hold a BA in International Relations and Latin American Studies and a MS in Organizational Leadership and bridge their academic & community scholarship as a Ethnic Studies lecturer and program developer. They are a Southwest Folklife Alliance and Intercultural Leadership Institute Fellow Alumni focusing on Youth & Community Participatory Action Research, Folklife Preservation and Cultural Organizing trained and mentored in the regional and Global South through the Highlander Research & Education Center, Southern Movement Assembly, Alternate Roots, Xinachtli National Comadres Network, National Compadres Network, Wind & Warrior Institute for Liberatory Healing & Ethnomathematics of the Nepohualtzintzin in Mexico.
