Athena Micro-Academy of Austin

Athena Micro-academy of Austin is a relationship-centered microschool designed for students in grades 6-12 who thrive in smaller spaces and perform best when learning at their own pace with personalized support. It’s a year-round program with breaks between terms. In addition to a comprehensive core academics program, Athena Micro-academy offers a daily Spanish immersion block, Voces, and a life and leadership skills program called Athena’s Council. Athena’s Council is a blend of direct instruction and project-based opportunities to learn more about communication, organization, and study skills, to name a few. Students will also learn about creating meaningful and positive impact in their communities.

At Athena we value and coach towards student autonomy, exercising flexibility with structure and plenty of guidance. We create a space that students love to be a part of. Students are invited to propose clubs, such as Dungeons and Dragons Club, Video Game Club, Crochet Club, Sewing Club, and more! In addition, Intercession Camps will be offered throughout the year during breaks. Athena offers an after school program for added supervised fun and gatherings, plus tutoring by appointment. Families may opt for the full Athena experience or may choose one of two part-time options.

Mily Pérez was born and raised in Texas and has served K-12 students for 20+ years. She earned her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and is a certified teacher and principal in Texas. Mily is an accomplished educator teaching and leading in premier private schools in the Austin and Houston areas, such as St. Andrew's Episcopal School and The Kinkaid School, respectively. Most recently, Mily served as the Head of School at her alma mater in the Houston area, a school she will always call her second home. Mily is married and has a 16 year-old son and 4 small dogs. She loves to cook, read, make her son laugh, hang out with friends and family, and have conversations that skip the small talk. Now that her son is older, she and her husband plan to travel more!
