The Lion Mountain Academy

The Lion Mountain Academy is a 6th grade academy in Knoxville, Tennessee dedicated to helping scholars strengthen leadership, advocacy, and independent thinking through rigorous inquiry and authentic learning experiences. Rooted in the philosophy of “Productive Struggle,” LMA combines Socratic inquiry, economic logic, and individualized instruction within a high-rigor, low-distraction environment designed for scholars capable of excellence. Through its Hybrid 4+1 model, students engage in doctoral inquiry and functional fitness during the week, while Fridays are devoted to community service, civic engagement, cultural immersion, and entrepreneurship. Lion Mountain Academy encourages scholars to remain “Village-Connected” by continuing participation in neighborhood sports, band, and extracurricular activities while pursuing their academic journey at LMA.

As a Doctor of Education and the daughter of Sierra Leonean heritage, I founded Lion Mountain Academy to reclaim the “Academic Middle.” My mission is to bridge the logic gap for 6th-grade scholars who are capable of excellence but often lose their advocacy in traditional systems. Drawing on the legacy of my parents—who viewed education as the ultimate tool for liberation—I lead LMA with a focus on “Productive Struggle.” I believe that by teaching scholars to summit their own internal mountains through Socratic inquiry and economic logic, we prepare them not just for school, but for a life of independent leadership.
