Sarah Harrington

My name is Sarah and I am the Founder of Solstice Hybrid Academy. SHA was created when I decided that I really wanted to homeschool my son, but I didn’t have the financial ability to leave my job. I had the idea to homeschool a group of students so that my family, and other families, would have the opportunity to explore a more inspirational organic way of educating our children.

I’ve been teaching for Public School for 10 years. The first two years I was a substitute teacher. That’s when I realized I had passion and talent for teaching. The last 8 years I’ve been focused on Art Education. I’m extremely passionate about using Art as a tool for teaching and making our world a better place. I use STEAM in every Art project I teach. Art makes it easy to connect Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to everyday life so that students are really understanding and processing what they are being taught.

I believe one of the best ways for students to learn is by making and doing. So we needed a way to explore places in our community that would support and allow students the ability to make and do the things we were learning about. That’s when the idea of a Skoolie classroom came to life. Our classroom operates out of a school bus so that each day after our students have completed their assignments we can drive to an enrichment destination.
